Our Story

LEDI was founded in 2022 by a small group of Australian Army Engineers who had spent years deploying into disaster zones. When you’ve carried equipment through mud, debris, heat, and chaos, you learn quickly what works and what fails. Clean water was always the hinge point — and most commercial desalination gear simply wasn’t built for the conditions we faced.

We decided to fix that.

Disaster relief came first.

Our first unit, the Troop, was a rugged land-based desalination system built for emergency teams. Portable, field-serviceable, and able to produce 90 litres per hour, it proved itself during deployments where reliability wasn’t optional. We have been supporting communities through NZ with over 40 Troops positioned along the North Island.

Then came the Garrison, a 1,000 LPH community-scale desalination system capable of supporting villages, shelters, and remote operations. It gave small communities the ability to regain independence fast, even when infrastructure was wiped out.

This work shaped everything that followed. When you design equipment for disaster relief, cutting corners simply isn’t part of the conversation.

From a Brisbane garage to the Gold Coast.

Between deployments and prototypes, we kept hearing the same thing from sailors, fishers, and off-grid travellers:
“Why isn’t there a tough, portable watermaker built in Australia. Something that doesn’t need a generator?”

So we started building one. In 2022, LEDI began in the garage of a Brisbane townhouse with a small work bench, a stack of tools, and a plan to build the most reliable portable desalination system in the country.

Demand grew fast. By 2024 we moved into a proper factory on the Gold Coast, where every LEDI system is still built and tested by hand. Locally, not overseas.

The Scout was the breakthrough.

After years of disaster-zone engineering and thousands of hours of field testing, we channelled everything we’d learned into one product: the Scout.
A compact, portable, brutally reliable desalination system designed for Australian conditions,  salt, heat, vibration, long passages, remote anchorages, and solar-based setups.

No installation. No gimmicks. No delicate components.
Just dependable fresh water anywhere you drop the hook or roll out a swag.

What we believe.

We build gear the same way we were taught to operate in the field:
keep it simple, keep it reliable, and make sure it works when it’s needed most.
Quality materials. Clean engineering. No shortcuts. No proprietary traps.

LEDI remains a home-grown Australian company, veteran-run and proudly local.
Our mission is straightforward:
give Australians the independence of safe water anywhere, whether it’s for a community in crisis or a couple cruising the coast.

This isn’t a story of tech giants or venture capital.
It’s a story of engineers, deployments, a garage, a factory, and a commitment to build gear that doesn’t quit.
