FAQ
SECTION 1 — GENERAL QUESTIONS
What is the LEDI Portable Desalination Unit?
The LEDI unit is a compact, high-efficiency system that converts seawater, brackish water, or contaminated water into clean, safe drinking water using advanced reverse osmosis desalination.
What types of water can it treat?
Seawater
Brackish water
Bore/well water
Slightly contaminated surface water (creeks, dams, floods)
Is the water safe to drink?
Yes. The unit uses multi-stage filtration, activated carbon, sediment removal, and reverse osmosis to produce water that meets or exceeds WHO drinking water standards.
SECTION 2 — PERFORMANCE & OUTPUT
How much water can it produce per hour/day?
Depending on the model, LEDI units produce from 50L to 2000L per day, depending on water temperature, salinity, and pressure.
Does water temperature affect output?
Yes. Warmer water = higher output.
Cooler water = reduced flow rate (normal for all RO systems).
Does salinity affect output?
In high-salinity regions (e.g., Red Sea), the unit may produce slightly less water, but performance remains stable.
What is the TDS of the treated water?
Typically < 50ppm after RO, well below drinking water limits.
SECTION 3 — POWER & ENERGY REQUIREMENTS
What power does it run on?
Depending on your model:
-
12V battery
-
24V battery
-
AC mains (110–240V)
-
Generator
-
Solar setup with inverter
Can it run completely off-grid?
Yes — LEDI systems are designed for remote and off-grid environments using solar, battery banks, or generators.
How much power does it draw?
Most units draw 150W–1400W, depending on size and pump type.
Can it run off a vehicle or boat alternator?
Yes — many customers run the unit off alternator charging while underway.
SECTION 4 — INSTALLATION & SETUP
Is installation complicated?
No. LEDI units are designed to be portable and plug-and-play.
Setup typically takes 5–15 minutes.
What comes in the kit?
-
Intake hose
-
Prefilters
-
RO system
-
Discharge hose
-
Power connections
-
Manual
Does it need permanent mounting?
No. Units can be used completely portable or optionally mounted in boats, utes, caravans, or 4WDs.
What is required at water source?
-
Access to seawater/brackish water
-
A place for brine discharge
-
Stable surface to set the unit
SECTION 5 — MAINTENANCE & FILTRATION
How often do the filters need replacing?
Average schedule:
-
Sediment filter: every 1–3 months
-
Carbon filter: every 3–6 months
-
RO membrane: every 2–5 years (depending on usage + water quality)
Is maintenance difficult?
No — filters twist out quickly and can be changed within minutes.
How do I store the unit long-term?
Use the included membrane preservative or flushing solution, run for 10–15 minutes, and store in a dry, cool environment.
Does it need cleaning after every use?
A freshwater flush after each day of use is recommended to extend membrane life.
SECTION 6 — USE CASES
Can it be used on a boat?
Absolutely — it’s perfect for sailing, fishing, cruising, and offshore operations.
Can it be used for camping or 4WD touring?
Yes. Just place the intake in a clean seawater source or brackish river, power the unit, and start producing water.
Can it supply a whole household?
Yes, depending on the model. Larger systems can feed into tanks or pressure pumps.
Can it be used for emergency response?
Yes — LEDI units are designed for rapid deployment during disasters, floods, or potable water shortages.
SECTION 7 — ENVIRONMENTAL & SAFETY
Is the brine discharge environmentally safe?
Yes — brine is simply concentrated saltwater and disperses naturally when released back into the ocean.
Do I need to treat contaminated water first?
Heavily muddy or polluted water should be pre-filtered to protect the membrane.
Is the system safe to operate?
Yes — all units have pressure protection, leak safeguards, and durable housings.
SECTION 8 — SHIPPING, ORDERS & DELIVERY
How long does shipping take?
Most orders ship within 3–5 business days.
Bulk or commercial systems may take longer.
Do you provide tracking?
Yes — tracking is emailed automatically.
Do you ship internationally?
Yes, we ship worldwide.
SECTION 9 — WARRANTY & SUPPORT
What warranty is included?
LEDI desalination units include 12–24 months warranty depending on the model.
What does the warranty cover?
-
Pumps
